WELCOME TO MY ‘DRAFT GRAPHIC DESIGN PROJECT’
I decided for my first graphic design project to use my most recent three-day bicycle ride in Eastern Oregon with fellow bikey friends. This project idea relates to the general topics covered throughout the life of my blog. The images included relate to my topic of cycling alone, in a group and the rewards that follow to be shared amongst friends after a grueling day in the saddle, or in this case, multi days in the saddle.
I worked with photoshop to the best of my beginner ability. I worked with tools that included various levels. For more specifics, the images list exact settings used with saturation, contrast, color, exposure, vibrance, hues and sharpen image pin.
The significance of the elements used in my design at this point was to include actual images that are relevant to my experience level at this time and the topic of cycling.
I encountered many challenges with the adobe software. Mostly, because I lack experience with the program. The most important piece of advice I can give anyone who finds this learning process hard, is to watch the videos and be prepared to set aside many hours tooling around. I thought when I uploaded and paid for Adobe, that was it. I swore I had photoshop, just couldn’t access it. It took a week to realize I actually had to download photoshop from Adobe. Yeah, I’m a dork.
It is becoming fun for me finally. Hang in there!
Hi Kathleen,
I enjoyed reading your post and I agree with you that videos are super helpful when it comes to learning how to use the tools in adobe! The three images that you choose really represented your topic. It’s great to see that you used your own pictures because it shows your passion of cycling. I would suggestion to bring the three pictures together into one. You should consider making a poster and adding a title that relates to your three-day bicycle ride in Eastern Oregon. You stated that your main element that you used for your project is saturation, contrast, color, exposure, vibrance, hues and sharpen image pin. I would recommend using the layer mask tutorial video that taught us how to make a grid of images inspired by pop art. You stated that your main element that you used for your project is saturation, contrast, color, exposure, vibrance, hues and sharpen image pin. Making a pop art with your photos would connect with your topic and showcase your ability with color. Overall, I love how your photos tell your story about your adventure in Eastern Oregon.

Hi Kathleen
I love the idea behind your project! It’s a fun, personal hobby that you can tell you’re clearly passionate about, which makes it really cool for the audience to see. I also agree that Adobe Photoshop was quite a challenge and took a lot longer for me to figure out that I had planned!
I really like the collection of photos you took. It’s a great mix having a group photo of everyone hanging out, a photo of the group in action, and a solo picture of just you. The inverted photo is a really cool effect too! I agree with Brenda’s suggestions of trying to combine them all onto one poster. You have so many other good photos from your image collection, if you did more of a collage poster, you could incorporate more to tell the overall story of your Eastern Oregon Ride. I would suggest using some of the techniques in the “Introduction to Layers” tutorial that showed how to crop photos and add labels. That might help tell your story a little better with a collection of photos and captions/labels to briefly describe it.
Overall you did a great job with the contrast, saturation, color, exposure, and brightness tools! I can’t wait to see how it all turns out!

Hey Kathleen! Your images are absolutely awesome! I really liked seeing your action shots of the bicycle journey you recently had. After reading some of your other comments, I would have to agree with the idea to incorporate all of these photos into one. In the first Photoshop assignment, we layered photos over a map by reducing the opacity significantly so the photos on top would stand out. I think that incorporating a map of where you rode would tell the story a lot more clearly and could be more creative. The creativity of the last photo was unique and showed your skills on Photoshop, however, I think it doesn’t contribute to your story as much as text could. If there was a caption on the photo of where and when it was taken, it would make things more clear as far as your theme. Overall, I thought each image was awesome and you did a great job with the project! Also, reading your other posts, you have a really cool blog that I would definitely stay tuned to read updates.

Hi Kathleen
I really love how you used a personal hobby as your topic. The three personal pictures you chose really represent your love of cycling. I suggest maybe creating a poster that puts all three pictures into one. But I do agree, it is challenging trying to navigate adobe software. I had to go back and watch each tutorial again while drafting my design. My next suggestion is your first picture seem a bit blurry. If you can clear it up to the right pixels to make it sharp. Also, when you create your poster or whichever design you choose, write out the dates of your cycling event. Your topic is very inspiring, and I love just seeing the joy people have when sharing their experiences. From your topic intro post, you seem to have a great knowledge on all things cycling. I believe you are off to a great start in your draft and I can’t wait to see your final project.

After reading all of my classmates responses to my first draft tonight, it was touched and I’m very thankful for the real suggestions. This has been a tough course for me. I’m happy about our group.
I will create a poster using images and other tools on photoshop. The poster will include events and dates to my poster. I want to also add a map of the terrain I rode my bicycle on, and use the layering to place informative labels over the images/map. My classmate said I may want to consider using Pop art to tie my poster together. In addition, using the layer mask tutorial to guide me through the process.
This is the information I gleaned off of my group. Thank you, all for your feedback. I look forward to sharing my blog post with people outside my school realm. It’s great to have made this progress.
